In the Free State, suspects who were detained for unlawful adoptions make court appearances.
The four defendants, who cannot be identified to preserve the privacy of the youngsters, range in age from 29 to 59 and are also accused of fraud. Warrant Officer Fikiswa Matoti, the regional spokesperson for the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks), stated that the initial two suspects were detained on March 17 on Friday and the other two the following day.
The accused are 35 and 51 years old."It is alleged that two females, a Lesotho native and a South African national, visited Botshabelo Home Affairs to submit late registration requests for two children, who were 5 and 15 years old. The suspects of unlawful adoptions are expected to appear in court. An alert from a home affairs official led to their arrests.
"A preliminary investigation was carried out and it was found that there is a department of health official who is allegedly recruiting foreign nationals to illegally adopt children," the report reads. He claimed that the health official would find the kids and persuade their parents to grant their permission in exchange for a financial payment.
She would bring the kids to a home affairs officer so they could be registered. Later on, the kids would apply for Sassa grants, and they (suspects) would split the money, Singo added. For further inquiry, ''the matter was referred to the Hawks' serious organized crime investigation team based in Bloemfontein." On March 27, the four accused are anticipated in court once more when they will ask for bail. The department of health official has not yet been detained.
